Treasures of the Moscow metro: stations that will take you to Ancient Rome

Hello dear friends. I suggest that you meet today at… Metro.

Do not be afraid, because even in the subway you can see real treasures.

All stations on the Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya line were opened after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Despite the absence of traditional Soviet ornaments, their decor also impresses millions of visitors.

«Marina Grove»

For centuries, the Moscow district of Maryina Roshcha, where the metro station of the same name is located, belonged to the wealthy and influential Sheremetev family. Therefore, it is not surprising that the decorations of the station are dedicated to these aristocrats.

On the walls you can see colorful images of the Sheremetev estates: mansions, churches, forests and rivers.

«Dostoevskaya»

This metro station deserves the applause of fans of the great Russian classic. The station dedicated to Fyodor Dostoevsky is located not far from the house where the writer was born.

It is decorated with images and motifs from four of the writer’s most famous novels: Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, Demons and The Brothers Karamazov.

«Pipe»

The station is decorated with illuminated glass mosaics depicting ancient Russian towns and villages. At its opening, passengers were surprised by the absence of crosses on the depicted churches. Some enthusiasts put their small wooden and metal crosses on the paintings, which the authorities did not object to.

«Sretensky Boulevard»

On the columns of the station you can see images of Muscovites and streets.

There are also monuments to Russian writers and poets with quotations from their works in Russian.

«Roman»

Dedicated to Ancient Rome, the «Rimskaya» station is decorated with the joint efforts of Russian and Italian designers and artists. At the end of the platform is a composition of several columns, among which the babies Romulus and Remus are crawling.

Right behind the composition is a real fountain, the only one in the Moscow metro.

Above the entrances to the escalators there are several bas-reliefs: the Madonna Lita, the Capitoline Wolf.

Have you been to these stations? Tell us which one do you like the most?
